For more durability, steel deck can be powder coated with a Magnelis(r) coating. This is an exceptionally tough coating that provides protection in harsh environments. The steel deck can also be used as a permanent shuttering and composite member to help prevent the concrete from cracking and forming shrinkage joints. This can result in lower design costs and increased project flexibility.

You can use the Deck Properties dialog to specify the deck’s material type, profile name and dimensions. The default is the Steel Deck (Kind: Standard). Other options include Sheet Width, Profile Dimensions and Modeling – Edge of Slab to Edge of Deck (Section). This specifies the thickness of the deck and may be edited if a different material was specified in the Material Database.

Versatile

Steel is a versatile and a popular choice for a variety of building applications. This includes framing, roofing and railings. It is ideal for commercial structures and can be fabricated to meet design briefs. It is also very durable and can withstand natural disasters, such as tornadoes, earthquakes or floods.

Composite slabs made with metal decking are much lighter than concrete, which saves on construction costs. It also reduces the need for formwork and support props during the slab casting process, which speeds up construction timelines.

Specifying metal decking also allows for greater design flexibility in multi-storeyed buildings such as car parks.
